Behind the Foil

Diabellstar is drawn as a lone figure in dark robes or armor, wreathed in purple magic and set against a ruined backdrop. The palette is the story: black and violet for the witch, a broken landscape for what she’s picking through. Nothing in the frame suggests company, which suits a card whose effects mostly involve her working alone. It’s a different mood from the character-pairing art we covered in the W:P Fancy Ball spotlight.

A witch who once lost everything, now begins the battle to take it all back.

Konami

The card debuted in Age of Overlord as AGOV-EN006, and that original run is represented by Diabellstar the Black Witch. Magnificent Monsters brought it back as MAMO-EN032 on September 4, 2026, giving the card a second English printing with the same text. A reprint that arrives while the character is getting her own story episodes is good timing, and the second Seeker of Sinful Spoils episode, “Snake-Eyes Poplar,” landed on September 25, 2026.

Lore

Diabellstar is a solitary treasure hunter in black, skilled in magic and feared for how ruthlessly she goes after Sinful Spoils. Those spoils are beautiful treasures formed from souls defiled by sin and negative emotions, and they carry great power alongside curses and calamity.

In the second episode she crosses paths with the Goblin Bikers, and Snake-Eyes Poplar emerges from Sinful Spoils of Subversion – Snake-Eye. A hunter who keeps taking cursed prizes in spite of the cost is exactly what the card’s mechanics look like when you turn them into a character.

Competitive History

Diabellstar the Black Witch is a Level 7 DARK Spellcaster with 2500 ATK and 2000 DEF. It can Special Summon itself by sending a card to the Graveyard, and whenever it’s Normal or Special Summoned, it Sets a Sinful Spoils Spell/Trap. If it ends up in the Graveyard, it can return during the opponent’s turn, provided you pay another card.

That mix of self-summoning, spell and trap setup, and a paid recursion gives the deck a body that keeps coming back and leaves behind backrow, which pairs naturally with Sinful Spoils cards such as Sinful Spoils Sanctification, a trap that can Special Summon a “Diabell” monster from the Graveyard.

FoilWire Take

The best thing about this card is how well the text and the character agree. Nothing here is free, because every summon and every return costs another card, and that’s exactly how a hunter chasing cursed treasure should play.

The original Age of Overlord printing carries the first-release weight, while Diabellstar the Black Witch is the newest English printing for anyone who simply wants the card. Either way, the story episodes make a good reason to look at the art again.
