Dual Fusion at a Glance

  • What happened: The Pokémon Company announced Dual Fusion, a Pokémon TCG Pocket expansion that adds dual-type Pokémon cards to the app.
  • Key date: Dual Fusion becomes available October 29, following the announcement on October 20, 2026.
  • Why it matters: Pocket gets dual-type cards for the first time, plus Special Packs that run on a weekly stamina system.

What Dual Fusion Adds

The announcement names two early examples: Mega Mewtwo X ex, a Psychic- and Fighting-type card, and Mega Greninja ex, a Water- and Darkness-type card. Pokémon.com also ran a Pocket feature on the new dual-type Pokémon the same day, a useful companion read if you also follow the physical game, as we did in our review of the Pokémon 30th Celebration set.

The Pokémon Company International

Mega Greninja ex also exists outside the app. Collectors who want the Pokémon on a physical card can look at Mega Greninja ex – 022/086, a Chaos Rising printing that is a separate item from the Pocket card.

Special Packs and Stamina

Special Packs use their own stamina, which recovers once a week, and each pack guarantees one star-rarity card. First Partners Special Packs run from October 31 through December 26. Anyone curious about the physical set behind that Mega Greninja ex printing can also look at Chaos Rising Booster Box.

The Bigger Change

Dual typing is the more interesting change here. It’s a first for the app, and two of its opening examples are Mega Pokémon. The Special Packs are a smaller tweak, but the weekly stamina limit sets a clear pace for how often players can open them.
