  • Possible drivers: Possible drivers include anniversary attention and the August 8 purchase of 26 copies reported by TCGplayer.

Market Snapshot

The story starts before the current price. In its September 1 price trends report, TCGplayer said Poké Ball SWSH146 had gained $17.31 over the preceding 30 days and reached a $42.90 Market Price. TCGplayer also reported that one buyer purchased 26 copies on August 8. The company described the activity as a buyout, but the available data does not establish the buyer’s motive.

There is useful context from before that move. PriceCharting records multiple completed TCGplayer transactions during July in the $20 range, along with some sales above $30. That makes the later movement easy to see without relying entirely on a calculated market figure.

What makes the card interesting now is that the move has not simply disappeared. The Lab TCG snapshot dated September 29 still shows regular Near Mint TCGplayer activity at elevated levels. But another marketplace tells a less orderly story. BinderDex records several recent raw eBay completed sales spread across a noticeably lower range. These are completed transactions rather than asking prices. In other words, the card is still selling, but there is not one clean market value that every venue appears to agree on.

Data checked: September 30, 2026. The TCGplayer sales snapshot is dated September 29, 2026. Market prices, listings, and availability may change after publication.

What We’re Watching

The next question is not whether the August move happened. It did. The useful question is whether later transactions make the current TCGplayer level look increasingly representative, or whether the gap between marketplaces continues to show a card whose price is still being sorted out.

  • Supply: Watch whether comparable Near Mint listings rebuild or remain limited enough that individual transactions can noticeably affect the market figure. Fewer listings alone would not prove continued buying.
  • Demand: Continued completed sales near the current TCGplayer market would strengthen the case that the higher range is holding. More eBay transactions materially below it would reinforce the marketplace gap.
  • Catalysts: Anniversary attention remains relevant even though 30th Celebration has already arrived. Continued interest in older Celebrations promos could matter, but that attention should be measured through actual transactions rather than assumed.
  • Risk factors: The sample remains thin. A small number of transactions can make a market figure appear more settled than the underlying sales really are, especially when separate marketplaces are showing different ranges.

FoilWire Market Read

The cleanest reading is that the August move did not fully unwind on TCGplayer. That matters. Late September transactions show that buyers were still completing sales well above many of the July comps. But eBay is not confirming one clean value. Recent completed sales there sit across a noticeably lower and wider range, which makes the market look less settled than the TCGplayer headline number alone suggests.

The 26 copy purchase clearly mattered to the timing of the original move, but it does not by itself explain every transaction that followed. Right now, the strongest conclusion is simple: SWSH146 has retained a meaningful part of its August repricing, while the broader market is still arguing over what that price actually is.

Market Note

Market data represents a snapshot of the sources reviewed for this article and may not reflect every private sale, marketplace, geographic region, condition, grade, fee, shipping cost, tax, or transaction occurring in the broader collectible market. Asking prices are not completed sales, individual transactions may be outliers, and limited sales volume can make collectible pricing especially difficult to interpret.
