Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG Banlist Bans Kewl Tune Rotary and Dimension Shifter

Eight cards move to Forbidden while Elfnote Tinia is Limited and several long restricted cards return to three copies.

The September List

  • What changed: Konami moved eight cards to Forbidden, including Kewl Tune Rotary, Dimension Shifter, PSY-Framelord Omega, and Archlord Kristya, while easing restrictions on ten other cards.
  • Effective date: Most changes take effect September 21, 2026, while Mind Master and Elder Entity Norden become Unlimited on September 28.
  • What it changes: Kewl Tune loses Rotary, Elfnote Tinia falls to one copy, and older cards including Wind-Up Carrier Zenmaity, M-X-Saber Invoker, and Mirage of Nightmare return to three copies.

Eight Cards Go Forbidden

The new Forbidden cards are Archlord Kristya, Dimension Shifter, Kewl Tune Rotary, Wind-Up Hunter, Protectcode Talker, Reprodocus, Phantasmal Lord Ultimitl Bishbaalkin, and PSY-Framelord Omega. Elfnote Tinia and Prohibited Power Patron Portal – Terminus are now Limited, while Branded in High Spirits moves to two copies. Mind Master, Unchained Soul of Sharvara, Elder Entity Norden, M-X-Saber Invoker, Wind-Up Carrier Zenmaity, Metamorphosis, Mirage of Nightmare, Premature Burial, Purrely Delicious Memory, and Runick Fountain move to Unlimited.

The changes to “Mind Master” and “Elder Entity Norden” from Forbidden to Unlimited do not take effect until September 28, 2026.

Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG

The previous May 18 list had Dimension Shifter and PSY-Framelord Omega at one copy, while Wind-Up Carrier Zenmaity, M-X-Saber Invoker, Mirage of Nightmare, Mind Master, and Elder Entity Norden were still Forbidden. Metamorphosis and Premature Burial had only just moved from Forbidden to Limited on that list. Kewl Tune Rotary itself debuted in BLAZING DOMINION on May 8, 2026, giving the card a particularly short run before its move to Forbidden.

Old Cards Get More Room

The other half of this update is unusually generous. Wind-Up Hunter becomes Forbidden at the same time Wind-Up Carrier Zenmaity leaves the list entirely, while M-X-Saber Invoker and Mirage of Nightmare also return from Forbidden status. Unchained Soul of Sharvara, Purrely Delicious Memory, and Runick Fountain move from two copies to three, while Metamorphosis and Premature Burial continue their return after reaching Limited status earlier this year. Konami did not provide a card by card explanation for the individual changes, so the reasoning behind each move remains unstated.

A Measured Reset

On first read, this feels like a balanced list. It removes several high impact cards and trims current engines without treating every strategy the same, while also giving older cards considerably more room. The more interesting question now is what the format looks like once players rebuild without Rotary, Shifter, Omega, and the other newly Forbidden cards.
