Deep-Eyes White Dragon, the Blue Abyss MAMS-EN002 Turns Kaiba’s Dragon Into a Tuner Searcher

Deep-Eyes White Dragon, the Blue Abyss carries Blue-Eyes branding, but its best-documented job in Japan so far has been fetching a Tuner for Kewl Tune decks.

Behind the Foil

The dragon is built from white and silver, with glowing blue gem-like accents set into its body. Its head is raised and its mouth is open, and the wings spread wide on both sides, each assembled from layered plate-like panels that read more like armor than feathers. Behind it, the background is a bright icy blue scattered with shards and sparkles, so the pale dragon stands out against a cold, glittering field. Below the title, a row of ten orange stars sits on the orange-brown Effect Monster frame, a quick signal that this is a Level 10 monster despite its modest stat line.

Konami

The Blue Abyss is a reimagining of an older monster. The original Deep-Eyes White Dragon debuted as MVP1-EN005 in the 2016 Dark Side of Dimensions Movie Pack, and it works very differently: it summons itself after a face-up Blue-Eyes is destroyed, deals damage based on differently named Dragons in the Graveyard, and gains the ATK of a Graveyard Dragon when it’s summoned.

The new version trades that burst for a search effect and a revival trick. Collectors comparing the two can track down Deep-Eyes White Dragon, the Movie Pack original. The new card also reached the OCG first, in March 2026, well ahead of its TCG arrival in Magnificent Maestros, which Konami lists at 125 cards.

Lore

Seto Kaiba is the wealthy CEO of KaibaCorp, and his central ambition is to become the greatest duelist in history, with Yugi as his eternal rival. Blue-Eyes White Dragon is his signature monster, and the original Deep-Eyes White Dragon is a movie-era extension of it. In The Dark Side of Dimensions, Kaiba summons it in his duel against Yugi after Blue-Eyes Chaos MAX Dragon is destroyed. Konami counts the Blue Abyss among 18 reimagined cards inspired by Kaiba’s cards, so it sits in a set built around his collection.

Competitive History

The card is a Level 10 LIGHT Dragon with 0 ATK and 0 DEF, and it’s always treated as a “Blue-Eyes” card. Both of its effects are once per turn. The first is the search shown in the quote above. The second revives it: when a Blue-Eyes Ritual Monster or Blue-Eyes White Dragon is sent to the Graveyard outside the Damage Step, it can target that monster and Special Summon itself from the hand or Graveyard, copying the target’s ATK and banishing itself if it later leaves the field.

A Konami ruling confirms that Blue-Eyes Alternative White Dragon sets this off, since its name is treated as Blue-Eyes White Dragon in the Graveyard. The surprise came in Japan. After restrictions reduced access to Kewl Tune Rotary and other cards, OCG Kewl Tune lists in July 2026 adopted the Blue Abyss as a replacement searcher for Kewl Tune Rotary. That same month’s metagame reporting records a Kewl Tune deck, piloted by Taiyo, winning the 87-player 17th Fuwadora Cup with an 8-2 record.

FoilWire Take

The most interesting thing about this card is the gap between how it looks and how it has been used. Everything about it, from the pale armored dragon to the Blue-Eyes name, says Kaiba’s deck, yet its documented success so far has come from a different archetype that needed a flexible Tuner searcher. That makes it a better card than its 0 ATK suggests, and it gives the Magnificent Maestros version a job beyond nostalgia. Whether TCG duelists find the same use will show up once it’s tournament-legal on November 13, with a Worlds route that’s now broader, as we covered in the Worlds 2027 digital division option for TCG duelists.
