Basic Box Wins Nice Regional as Dragapult Takes Just Two Top 8 Spots

Dragapult made up more than a third of Day 2 in Nice, but Basic Box turned a much smaller share into deep finishes.

Nice Regional at a Glance

  • What happened: Luc Gantner won the Nice Regional with Basic Box, finishing 15-1-2, while Maxime Launay took second with Dhelmise.
  • Key date: The Regional ran October 17 to 18, 2026, and drew 2,336 players.
  • Why it matters: Dragapult was the most-played deck on Day 2 but placed only two copies in the Top 8, so the field’s favorite did not control the final bracket.

How Basic Box Got Through

Of the 429 players who reached Day 2, 153 (35.7%) were on Dragapult decks. Only two of them made the Top 8. Basic Box had 42 Day 2 players and put four decks into the Top 16. Gantner’s winning list ran four Mega Kangaskhan ex and three Meowth ex. Mega-themed Pokémon TCG products are also on the way in Japan, including the deck set we covered in Pokémon TCG Reveals Special Deck Set MEGA for Japan, Releasing November 13.

Its Run-Errand Ability is very strong, drawing you two extra cards each turn it is in the Active Spot.

The Pokémon Company

Mega Kangaskhan ex has been a talking point since its Run-Errand Ability drew attention, and Basic Box shows how much a single support Pokémon can anchor a list. Players building around the current Mega Evolution cards can open Mega Evolution Booster Pack to get more of the expansion.

What Players Can Take From It

The smaller conversion numbers are the practical takeaway for anyone preparing for the next event: a deck’s popularity on Day 2 and its Top 8 results can differ a lot. Players who want more of the current expansion to test with can look at Mega Evolution Booster Pack Art Bundle [Set of 4], which gathers four art packs from the same expansion.

A Field Favorite Stumbles

Dragapult’s two Top 8 spots from 153 Day 2 players are respectable, but Basic Box’s four Top 16 finishes from 42 stand out more. A title win from a deck with far fewer entries is the clearest sign that this Regional wasn’t decided by the most popular list.
