Unverified Discord screenshots claim 30th Celebration resellers are taking heavy losses, but sealed products remain far above MSRP while singles have fallen sharply.
The Market Is Split
- What went viral: Screenshots attributed to Pokémon resellers on Discord show supposed sellers discussing falling prices, maxed credit cards, and even legal action, but their authenticity has not been independently confirmed.
- What prices show: The Lab TCG tracked its 30th Celebration sealed presale index falling 58 percent between July 5 and launch, yet its September 19 snapshot still had 31 of 32 tracked products at twice MSRP or more.
- Why it matters: Buyers who obtained sealed product at retail and buyers who paid inflated secondary market prices before launch are in very different positions, making a broad reseller collapse difficult to support with current data.
Singles Took the Harder Hit
30th Celebration launched on September 16, and alleged reseller complaints began spreading soon afterward through Discord screenshots, Reddit reposts, and wider coverage. FoilWire could not independently authenticate the original Discord posts, so they should be treated as evidence of the viral discussion rather than proof that the claimed losses occurred. The singles market offers firmer evidence of a correction. Wargamer reported community collected data covering 4,063 opened packs, with Special Illustration Rares observed about once every 18 packs and Illustration Rares about once every 5.2 packs. The Lab TCG also recorded Mew ex falling 60 percent from its initial presale ask once launch day sales began, although that figure was based on only four recorded sales.

“For new Pokémon TCG expansions launching in the future, we are maximizing production to increase product availability upon release.”
Pokémon Support, updated May 26, 2026.
Sealed product tells a different story. The Lab TCG recorded the standard Elite Trainer Box at $175.15 against a $49.99 MSRP in its September 19 snapshot, while 31 of 32 tracked products were still at least twice MSRP. A TCGplayer listing tracker showed the same box near $176 early on September 22. That does not erase the sharp presale decline. The Lab’s index of 16 sealed products fell 58 percent between July 5 and launch as additional preorder waves arrived. Someone who paid retail and someone who bought the same product near an early secondary market peak can therefore have completely different results.
Supply Is Still Moving
There are also signs of continuing pressure on resale activity. Kotaku reported a large wave of Pokémon Center order cancellations before launch that collectors believed primarily affected bot orders, although Pokémon did not publicly explain the cancellations and legitimate customers also reported losing orders. In Japan, Mercari officially prohibited listings for unopened 30th CELEBRATION expansion packs and the nine 30th CELEBRATION card sets beginning September 16, while allowing opened single cards. More anniversary products are also scheduled, including 30th Celebration Battle Decks on October 30. Pokémon’s standing availability policy says the company is maximizing production for new expansions and reprinting impacted products, but no specific 30th Celebration reprint quantity has been announced.

The Viral Story Is Ahead of the Data
There is real evidence that aggressive presale pricing and early singles expectations were punished quickly. There is much less evidence that resellers who obtained sealed 30th Celebration products near retail are broadly losing money today. The more interesting story is the divide between falling singles, retreating presale premiums, and sealed products that remain expensive. With additional product still scheduled, whether those markets eventually move closer together remains worth watching.
