NIKKE Vol.2 doubles down on signed cards, exclusive artwork, and a sprawling parallel lineup while experimenting with a noticeably different opening structure.

NIKKE Vol.2 lands at 8.2 because its artwork, deep parallel structure, and excellent chase lineup give collectors plenty to get excited about. The gritty visual identity fits the source material beautifully, while Cinderella and a huge pool of signed characters give the set a serious top end. A more experimental SR structure and relatively modest nostalgia score keep an otherwise excellent release just outside Memorable territory.

Artwork

NIKKE Vol.2 looks exactly like NIKKE should. Guns, ruined environments, heavy machinery, tactical outfits, and a slightly dark edge run through the set without turning every card into a wall of gray misery. There is still enough character and color to keep a binder from looking like twelve pages of the same apocalypse. The balance works.
Bushiroad also commissioned 14 exclusive newly drawn illustrations, giving the set material beyond recycled game imagery. The extensive parallel lineup pushes those characters through SR, SP, SSP, SEC, and AGR treatments, so the presentation becomes increasingly elaborate as the rarity climbs. The visual direction is gritty and appropriately dramatic rather than needlessly grim, and that identity carries the set remarkably well. It is distinctive, cohesive, and very easy to recognize at a glance.
Nostalgia Factor
NIKKE has already built a recognizable cast, and Vol.2 takes advantage of it. Rapi: Red Hood, Cinderella, Modernia, Crown, Alice, Laplace, Red Hood, Elegg, and plenty of other familiar faces make this feel like a celebration of the game rather than a random assortment of character art. Returning collectors also have the original Weiß Schwarz NIKKE release to connect it to.
Still, nostalgia is simply not the main weapon here. NIKKE does not have decades of cardboard history behind it, and Vol.2 is only the second major English booster release for the property. The attachment comes from characters and moments players already know rather than generations of collector memory. That is enough to make the set emotionally recognizable for fans, but not enough to pretend this belongs in the same nostalgia conversation as franchises with a much longer trading card history.
Set Depth
There is a lot going on here. Vol.2 contains 112 normal card types, then piles on 1 AGR, 5 SEC, 9 SSP, 31 SP, 13 RRR, and 99 SR parallels. Bushiroad also includes hot stamped sign cards from 40 voice actors. This is not a checklist where one famous card sits at the top while everything underneath it quietly waits to be forgotten.
Characters can also appear across several parallel levels. Elegg: Boom and Shock, for example, appears as an RR alongside SR, SP, and SEC treatments, while Protecting Your Hope, Laplace receives SR and SSP variants above its standard RR. That creates multiple layers of collecting rather than one narrow jackpot tier. The drawback is that repeated characters across several treatments can make some of that depth feel like variation rather than entirely new material. Even so, between the character selection, signed cards, high rarity tiers, and huge SR pool, Vol.2 gives collectors plenty to chase beyond its centerpiece.

Opening Experience
Opening Vol.2 had its moments. My case produced two SP cards, Rapi: Red Hood and “Game Master” Rouge, while the starred SR structure added another layer of anticipation between the bigger reveals. Seeing a three star SR appear was a fun surprise, and discovering which version came next gave the packs an extra bit of suspense.
The tradeoff is that the familiar SR rhythm feels different, and I missed the old structure. Vol.2 also shrinks the format from the first set’s 12 packs per display and 24 displays per carton to 10 packs and 12 displays, while adding a display PR and a separate carton PR. That makes for a more compact opening with several smaller reveals competing for attention. There is plenty to enjoy, but the extra rarity layers do not automatically make the experience more satisfying. An interesting shakeup with some good moments, even if the original format had a cleaner appeal.
Top Chase Appeal

The Cinderella AGR is exactly the kind of card a set like this needs at the top. Bushiroad lists a single AGR in the rarity structure, with the 1st Edition featuring Cinderella voice actress Aoi Yūki. It gives Vol.2 a clear centerpiece with a rarity treatment that immediately separates it from the rest of an already crowded parallel ladder.
Better yet, the chase appeal does not collapse if Cinderella is removed from the equation. Five SEC cards, nine SSP cards, and 31 SP cards create a broad signed lineup featuring characters such as Rapi: Red Hood, Elegg, Laplace, Modernia, Crown, Red Hood, Alice, and plenty more. That matters. A top chase should give a set an identity, but a good chase structure should still leave collectors with cards they would be thrilled to see when the absolute ceiling does not appear. Vol.2 succeeds at both, even if the sheer number of upper rarity variants prevents every one of them from feeling equally singular.

How we score
Each category is scored out of 10. Add the five category scores and divide by five for the overall FoilWire Score, shown to one decimal place. Each category contributes 20 percent. The score reflects our editorial judgment from a collector’s perspective. The category sections explain the evidence and limitations.
- 9.2–10.0: Legendary — A standout release with broad collector appeal, strong identity, and exceptional overall execution. A 10.0 is reserved for a set with no meaningful weakness across all five categories; being iconic, historic, expensive, or popular by itself is not enough.
- 8.4–9.1: Memorable — A very strong set with real strengths, even if one or two areas keep it from top-tier status.
- 7.5–8.3: Noteworthy — A worthwhile release with clear positives, though it may be more niche or uneven overall.
- 6.3–7.4: Mixed — A set with some interesting elements, but noticeable weaknesses in depth, excitement, or long-term identity.
- 0–6.2: Forgettable — A release that struggles to stand out and offers limited lasting appeal outside a narrow audience.
